The Roman town of Carsulae
Carsulae can be reached in about 30
minutes from Ermitage Macchiabella.
Covering an area of more than 20 acres, the imposing remains
provide the Umbrian - Roman town of Carsulae
a unique archeology location in Umbria, a real open-air museum where you can go into a long piece of the ancient Via Flaminia with its original paving. Along the side of the
road, surrounded by meadows with the Martani mountains in the
background, the forum with the original Castore and
Polluce consecrated twin temples, the Basilica, the thermal baths, the theater and the amphitheater, also the great arch of San Damiano and the zone of monumental tombs. There is
a modern service-center with a museum exhibiting interesting finds of the town, which was built near the springs of San
Gemini, resting place for legions on their way back to Rome. In the age of barbarians invasions the town was
abandoned.
Carsulae is located between Terni and Acquasparta, on the provincial road Carsulana.

San Patrizio Well, Orvieto
Orvieto is about 1 1/4 hour from Ermitage Macchiabella.
Saint Patrick's well (Pozzo di San Patrizio, depth 58.5 m, diameter 4.7 m) was built from 1527 to 1537 by Antonio da
Sangallo.
Sangallo designed an ingenious plan: the way to and from the wells consist of two interwoven spiral stairs. This form of a double helix, the paths never
cross, so that the donkeys with their water loads could climb again without meeting. Shortly after its completion
in 1537, this fountain was considered as a special building and is still today visited by numerous architects.

The pretty village is situated on a hill with a panoramic view, facing up to Todi. Montecastello di Vibio is world famous
thanks to the Teatro della Concordia, which is considered as the smallest theater in the world, also known as Teatro Piccolo.
