The year 2020
Despite the darned year 2020, guests visited us, some of whom have already been at our place several times. Everyone was able to enjoy the peace and quietness.
We are looking ahead with confidence to welcome our faithful guests and are happy to meet new ones. We will do everything to ensure a comfortable stay.
A very nice quiet place with a wonderful poll
One of the nicest places we stayed in Italy. Wonderful natural pool, quiet, peaceful surroundings, the most lovely hosts who did everything to let us feel welcome. Everything as described and more with a welcoming glass with the owners, oil and wine from the property and every help they could give with advice, reservations and a nice talk now and then. All of Tuscana and Umbria within reach but also a good place to relax and stay at the pool or in your private garden.

British holiday makers have visited Italy for many years usually to the rather better known Tuscany region.
Umbria is a smaller region south of Tuscany, but a region of untouched landscapes and green winding valleys. There are mountains, hills and plains along the Tiber valley and Umbria is the only
region without coastline. However Lake Trasimeno, central Italiy's largest lake, is in Umbria which has also many rivers for canoeing and kayaking.
The capital of the region is Perugia and from here it is not far to drive to Fratta Todina, where we find Ermitage Macchiabella, the beautiful farm of Daniela Colonnelli and Claudio Pisoni. There are two elegant apartments available to visitors (see details on the website). The real charm of Umbria is its art, its nature and its peace and calm. The historical towns of Gubbio, Orvieto, Spoleto and Assisi are easily accessible, and Assisi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The tranquillity of Ermitage Macchiabella is splendid, and Claudio and Daniela are superb hosts. They gave us a truly memorable dinner on the terrace of their home with panoramic views overlooking the distant Tiber Valley. Together we visited a local wine producer which was a real treat and the four of us enjoyed dinner at a wonderful local restaurant, L'Antico Forziere. In the hottest part of the day, one can cool off in the natural pool next to the apartments and for the more ambitious, Claudio and Daniela will saddle up their horses to ride through the beautiful countryside adjoining their farm. The farm boasts many olive trees and the fruit is harvested annually to make a really top quality olive oil.
The region is also famous for wine production and wine lovers will not be disappointed. The local food will
satisfy all tastes especially local delicacies of ham, salami and sausages and there are many wonderful local cheeses to sample.
Ermitage Macchiabella is definitely a place to visit and a superb base from which one can explore a
region of Italy remarkable for its beauty and tranquillity.
We stayed at Ermitage Macchiabella for several weeks as a base to travel in Umbria and Rome. Claudio and Daniela were wonderful hosts, very helpful with an infinite knowledge of the area, local
restaurants and festivals. EM is in a quiet country location overlooking the valley floor and surrounding hills. Typical of Italy, they produce their very own olive oil! We stayed in the smaller
apt. "La Stalla". Definitely for two adults, or maybe with two small children. La Stalla was a cozy place to relax and cook basic meals. With a cool and charming interior, it had everything we
needed for our stay. It has a small kitchen/eating area, a loft (low ceiling) with two beds, and a sofa bed in the small living area. There are two beautiful terraces in the front and the back,
both with wonderful open views. I had a bike and took advantage of early morning rides to explore the area. We also took advantage of the wood deck at the natural pool to have picnic dinners "al
fresco" in the evening. A terrific place, we will be back to Ermitage Macciabella!
Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children and romantic getaway.

WONDERLAND
It was our own little house for a few days , in the midst of charming, untouched surroundings except for local agriculture. We spent the most quiet days in our memory. The breakfast on the private terrace: you want to textend it until mid-day. And if need be, the charming hosts are available for help or a glass of wine in the evening. All this is beyond anything a hotel can offer. Everybody should have been there once in a lifetime.

EXCELLENT
Lovely, beautiful place. Friendly, nice owners. Would definitely recommend it to others.
Charming place for quiet holidays.
We spent one week in this lovely place called "La Stalla". The appartment is nice and cozy with all we need for cooking and a very good bedding. Terrace offer a beautifull view on olive trees fields. The natural pool is a very quiet place. Claudio and Daniela were very charming and caring hosts and very helping about Umbria. We are ideally between Rome and Florence (about 1h30 with a car) and we can stay one day in theses lovely places. We recommend warmly "Marchiabella Ermitage".

Dear Daniela and Claudio
Thank you so much for the warm welcome on Ermitage Macchiabella. We were looking for a place where we could relax and also have fun – either culturally as well as gastronomically and we found it. In the green Umbrian countryside near Perugia and Assisi this little oasis offers everything what one desires. Starting with the big and cosy rooms to the refreshing Natural pool and ending with the exciting riding lesson (my son was enthusiastic also thanks to patient Daniela). What one can say more? A warm “Thank You” to you both for the excellent stay and for the good advises regarding restaurants and vines. Certainly it was not the last time.
